Renewable Generation
Renewable Generation
The Government of Ontario's Green Energy and Economy Act has created the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) program to encourage renewable energy generation.
The Fit program is administered by the Ontario Power Authority. The OPA offers two programs for those interested in supplying renewable energy to their local electricity distribution grid. These programs allow customers to earn revenue by connecting solar photovoltaic, wind, bio-energy and small hydroelectric generation to the grid.
The microFIT program is for homeowners and business owners who are interested in installing renewable electricity generation projects that are 10 kilowatts or less in size. Most home-based installations, including small-scale rooftop solar PV panels, will fit into this category.
The FIT program is for renewable generation projects larger than 10 kilowatts.
