Clothes Dryer PDF Print E-mail

Remember that a longer spin cycle when washing will reduce the amount of water in the clothes shortening the drying cycle.

Modern dryers now offer automatic controls that allow the user to set the control for the degree of dryness. This control measures the moisture in the clothes and shuts the dryer off when the load is properly dried. Remove the clothes as soon as the tumbling stops for best results and dyer efficiency.

If your dryer has a temperature control, use the low setting whenever possible. The low setting is particularly important for heat sensitive items labelled "tumble dry low" or "warm"

Do not overload a dryer. Too many clothes will restrict the ariflow through the clothes and increase the drying time required. Always dry lightweight garments separate from the heavy garments for faster and more uniform drying.

Avoid overdrying. Set the control timer for the length of time required for drying and no longer.

A buildup of lint on the filter restricts the airflow and requires the dryer to run much longer. Check and clean the lint filter before each drying load. This will ensure a free flow of air thus allowing the dryer to operate as it was designed.

Follow the recommendations of the manufacturer regarding the size and maximum length of venting to ensure maximum efficiency.

When remodeling or building a new home, locate the dryer on an outside wall to keep the venting as short as possible.
