Earth Hour - 2010

On March 31, 2007 in Sydney Australia the first Earth Hour took place at 7:30 pm.  In March 2009, 4,088 cities in 88 countries participated in Earth Hour, representing over 1 billion people who turned out the lights.  Earth Hour is one small step individuals and businesses can take to conserve and reduce energy consumption.  Reducing energy consumption not only protects the environment but also the wallet.

While Earth Hour is about turning out the lights, it has the added opportunity to spend some quality time together as a family and relax.  Turn off the computers and the TV’s.  Sit around and talk without all the noises and distractions of modern society in the back ground.  Better yet bundle up and go outside.  With all of the light pollution in today’s night sky it is difficult to enjoy the stars.  When the lights go out take that opportunity to go outside, breathe the fresh spring air and take in the wonder which is the night sky.

People do not believe that one household can make a difference.  If everyone thought like that Earth Hour would not have spread from 1 city in Australia to over 4,000 cities in 88 countries.  Every person, family, household and business makes a difference, whether it is for Earth Hour or for every hour.  Visit www.EarthhourCanada.org to learn more facts and to get a list of fun activities to do when the lights go out.

At 8:30 pm On March 27th thousands of cities and towns around the world will celebate Earth Hour by turning off non essential lights for one hour to prove  we can make a difference in the fight against Climate Change.

Make every hour Earth Hour !
