The Town of Collingwood has a present population of approximately 24,175 persons, The Raymond A. Barker Ultra Filtration Water Treatment Plant was commissioned and put into service in December 1998. This plant is a direct filtration membrane surface water treatment plant which takes water from Nottawasaga Bay. The plant supplies all the filtered water used by the municipal water system. The Collingwood Public Utilities Service Board (CPU) provides the water service on behalf of the Town of Collingwood. The Plant also supplies the Town of The Blue Mountains and Town of New Tecumseth.
The Collingwood Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is located on the Collingwood waterfront at the north end of town. Currently, the WWTP treats wastewater piped in from the Town of Collingwood as well as other wastewater brought in by tanker truck. The treatment facility’s operations include grit removal, primary and secondary clarifiers, aeration tanks, anaerobic digesters, and sludge thickening operations. Landfill Leachate is also occasionally treated at the plant.
